EU to Grant 467 Million US Dollars in Aid to Ethiopia
The European Union (EU) announced Wednesday that it will grant 537.9 million euro (about US$467.97 million) to Ethiopia as development aid during the period of 2002-2007.
The grant is needed to help improve the country's economic infrastructure, including food security, macro-economic support and capacity building, said Karl Harbo, head of the EU delegation to Ethiopia, while attending a seminar here.
The two-day seminar, jointly organized by Ethiopia's Ministry of Economic and Development and Cooperation and the Delegation of the European Commission to Ethiopia, was opened on Tuesday to discuss and develop a draft strategy document on providing assistance to Ethiopia.
It has brought more than 100 participants together representing various donor agencies, non-governmental organizations, members of the private sector as well as prominent individuals.
