Shanghai Pudong International Airport may lose its chance to vie for hub airport in Asian Pacific area if the transferring problem is not handled in five years£¬said Xia Keqiang£¬director of the board of Shanghai Airport Co£¬Ltd.
Shanghai Daily says that the coming five years is a turning-point for Asian countries and Pudong International Airport has had more and more rivals, said Xia. China should have at least one international hub airport£¬but Pudong International Airport has a long way to go. Generally speaking£¬an international hub airport's handling capacity should cover at least 1 percent worldwide. To become the hub in Asian Pacific area should have a passenger capacity of at least 25 million a year £¬with more than 30 percent of transferring passengers. The passenger capacity of Pudong International Airport reached 17.68 million.
China's protection policy banned foreign airlines to choose Chinese airports as transfer stations£¬which gives a good chance for the domestic airports, said Xia.
Compared to China's other cities£¬Shanghai has more advantages in geography and economic environment in building an international hub airport£¬Xia added.
