Japan Not Qualified for Permanent Member of UN Security Council: DPRKThe Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) reiterated on Tuesday that Japan, with its revival of militarism and buildup as a military power, is not qualified to be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.DPRK was responding to recent Japan's moves in seeking a permanent seat in the Security Council. In a communique, the permanent mission of DPRK to the United Nations said Japan is the only country that has not recognized, apologized and compensated for its invasion against Korea and other Asian countries and past crimes against humanity even after more than a half a century. In the new century, Japan continues reviving militarism and speeds up building as a military power in order to realize the old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere," the mission said. Japan is also beautifying its invasion of the Asian countries as a "liberation war," thus distorting even its history and attempting to inculcate the younger generation with it, it added. Moreover, Japan is openly amending history textbook of high schools under the approval of the government, deleting the reference to even the stark historical fact about the forced women sex-slaves of Korea and Asian countries, the mission noted. The mission stressed that if Japan 's permanent membership is allowed, it would result in burying its past crimes and inciting its moves to become a military power and ambition to reinvade Asia. Before seeking a permanent seat in the Security Council, Japan should gain the trust of the international community by, among others, recognizing, apologizing and compensating for its invasion against Korea and Asian countries and crimes committed in the past, the mission said. |
