Auto Repair Industry Thrives in China

As more residents take on cars throughout China, the related auto repair and maintenance industry is thriving.

China now has 220,000 auto repair and maintenance workshops, which provide over 2.4 million jobs and have a total annual output value of 30 billion yuan, according to statistics from the China International Trade Fair for Car Workshop and Service Station Equipment, and Automobile Spare Parts and Accessories, which opened here Wednesday.

Experts predict that China's demand for private cars will rise 13 percent to 2.37 million units within this year, which will offer a huge market for manufacturers of after-sales parts and maintenance equipment.

There are a number of factors driving the development of the automotive after-sales industry, besides consumer wealth, Government regulations regarding individual car ownership, safety and environmental issues are also a boon to the industry.

The exhibition, the third of its kind, drew automakers from 18 countries.
