Peruvian Air Force Plane Crashes During Test
A MiG-29 jet from the Peruvian Air Force crashed Tuesday during an aerial test in the Chiclayo region, northern Peru.
The pilot of the plane managed to escape without harm, according to Congressman David Waisman, who had been observing the test. No further details were released, according to radio station, "Radio Programs of Peru."
The plane, together with another 15 planes of its kind, were reportedly performing in an air show before a Congressional Commission, which is investigating acts of corruption related to the purchase of aircraft.
Congressional members are investigating whether ex-President Alberto Fujimori's government officials were involved in financial scandals by purchasing shoddy MiG-29 airplanes for the country and receiving kickbacks.
