Forerunner of Democratic Revolution Commemorated

A series of activities were held Monday in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, to commemorate the 76th anniversary of death of Sun Yat-sen, the forerunner of the democratic revolution in China.

Born in 1866 in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City), Guangdong Province, Dr. Sun has been known across the country as a "great revolutionary and a great statesman" who fought against imperialist aggression and for the independence and freedom of China. He died of an illness in Beijing on March 12, 1925.

A commemorating ceremony was held in Dr. Sun's former residence, attended by local government and Party officials as well as celebrities of non-Communist parties.

The people placed baskets of flowers in front of Dr. Sun's portrait.

After the ceremony, the people attended a publishing ceremony on three books about Dr. Sun and his family and visited a photo exhibition about Dr. Sun.
