According to latest statistics, the population growth rate in northwest China's Shaanxi Province lowered to a 50-year low of five per thousand last year.
The province has witnessed great progress in its family planning work, with its population growth rate keeping below the national average for each of the past eight years.
The family planning policy has proven to be highly beneficial to the social welfare, said Zhang Li, director of the Shaanxi Family Planning Commission.
During the past half decade, the province has invested as much as 150 million yuan (about US$18 million) in its family planning cause, built a complex service network covering villages as well as small towns to provide technological support, and organized various activities to improve people's awareness of family planning.
