Project of Longtan Hydropower Station to Be Kicked off
March 12 saw a signing ceremony held in Beijing for granting loans to the Longtan Hydropower Station, a key project in the development of the western regions. The station, an extra-huge one next only to that of the Three Gorges, is the first infrastructure construction funded solely by domestic financial consortiums. As reported, this has been listed as a state key project in 2001 and will be set off this June.
As a 'bellwether' station in Tian'er County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Longtan is perched on the upper reaches of Hongshuihe, a mainstream of the Pearl River. The project is jointly financed by a group of domestic banks, such as Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, with the State Development Bank taking the lead and Construction Bank of China as an agent. The total fund reaches 19.758bn yuan.
At primary stage the station is designed for a total installed capacity of 4.2m kw with a yearly generating capacity of 15.67bn kwh and a budget investment of 24.697bn yuan.
