China Beat Ireland in Gold Cup Field Hockey

Emerging force China grabbed a hard-fought 2-1 goal win over Ireland in their second encounter of the Prime Minister Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium Dhaka Monday.

China, who lost their opening match against hot favorite Pakistan on Sunday, dominated the first half with a 2-0 lead.

Chinese forward Ren Baode scored a spectacular goal to be adjudged best player in the match.

In today's another match, hosts Bangladesh were virtually out from the tournament after conceding a 1-2 goal defeat against Scotland in their second appearance.

Bangladesh has an outside chance to stay in the race if they can beat superpower India in their remaining Group A match on Wednesday.

Soon after the match, the German coach of Bangladesh York Schumachar told newsman that he was not satisfied with the result.

"My boys played well in the first and the last 15 minutes, but hey were not up to the mark in the middle... it was too late when they woke up," he said.

There will be three group matches Tuesday, which are India vs Japan, Ireland vs Malaysia and Egypt vs Pakistan.
