Iraqi Vice President to Visit Moscow

Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan on Sunday discussed his scheduled visit to Russia with Russian Ambassador to Iraq Alexander Shein, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The INA said that Ramadan will make the trip at the invitation of the Russian government, but did not give a date.

The two officials also discussed ways of promoting bilateral relations, the INA added.

Russia, a major ally and the largest trade partner of Iraq, has been calling for lifting the decade-old sanctions on Iraq, and has condemned the military strikes by the United States and Britain against southern areas of Baghdad on February 16.

There have been frequent exchange of visits between the two countries. Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov visited Iraq on November 13 and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz went to Moscow later in the same month to cement bilateral ties.
