Participants in NPC, CPPCC Sessions on Border Area DevelopmentThe unity of all minority nationalities and the development of western China, border areas and areas inhabited by minority nationalities are one of the hot topics among those attending the current sessions of China's top legislature and advisory body.Over past week, NPC deputies and CPPCC members have been active in initiating proposals focusing on common prosperity and progress of all nationalities in the country. They agreed that the unity of various nationalities and social stability are preconditions of economic development in areas inhabited by people of minority nationalities, and economic growth, in turn, promotes social stability and prosperity in these areas. This has been proved by the rapid development in Tibet, where the local economy has grown at an annual rate of more than 10 percent in the last six years, higher than the national average, said Raidi, an NPC deputy from Tibet. Quwen from Inner Mongolia and Mao Bairu from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, both NPC deputies, shared the view that the encouraging economic growth in their hometowns benefits from the harmonious relations among various nationalities there. The NPC deputies and CPPCC members also drew the attention to the uneven development in various regions and suggested all regions should accelerate economic restructuring according to local conditions and give priority to development of their respective advantage industries.
