Chief of General Staff Meets Japanese Guests

China and Japan shall promote mutual understanding and trust in the spirit of learning lessons from history and facing the future, said a Chinese senior officer Monday.

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, in meeting with Tomohiro Okamoto, director of the general joint staff office of the Japan defense Agency, made the above remarks.

Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said as long as China and Japan follow the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration and the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan, they could make greater contributions to regional peace and development.

Fu briefed the guests on the ongoing 4th Session of the 9th National People's Congress (NPC), and reaffirmed Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue.

Tomohiro Okamoto is optimistic on the development of the relations between the defense departments of the two countries.
