China, Germany Cooperate to Build Ecology-friendly City
A cooperative program between experts from China and Germany on building Yangzhou, a famous ancient city in Jiangsu province, into an ecology-friendly city, has proceeded smoothly since it started in September last year.
Yangzhou, also a popular scenic spot, is well known for its rich and historic culture. In December last year, it was listed by the state as a trial demonstration city for ecological building.
After inspecting the city's ecological construction and environment protection work, experts from the two countries signed a memorandum making the city a model for ecological building in China.
The city has stepped up its effort to harness its polluting enterprises and considerably reduced the pollution discharged.
Meanwhile, several sewage factories have been completed, and projects to dredge up a stinking river is underway.
