The section of the Yellow River in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is seeing thousands of migratory birds these days, as the ice on the river is beginning to thaw. The thawing of the ice enables the birds to feed on fish and shrimps in the river.
Ice blocks made their way through the river's Sanshenggong Dam on Sunday.
The migratory birds include swans, geese and wild ducks, which are on their way back north to Siberia.
Officials in the local environmental protection department said that most of the bird species are on the government's protection list. "More are coming these years, as the government has banned the trapping of birds along the river," they said.
