Arab FMs in Cairo for Discussions on Supporting Palestinians

The Arab follow-up committee convened here late Sunday to discuss the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the latest developments in the Mideast peace process, Egypt's official Middle East News Agency reported.

Foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian National Authority, Saudi Arabia, Syria andTunisia.html target=_blank> Tunisia attended the meeting to follow up the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the Arab summit last October in Cairo.

The follow-up committee was set up at the summit and pledged to provide moral and financial aid to the Palestinians.

The participants were expected to explore ways to deal with Israel's continuing brutalities against the Palestinians and to support the Palestinian Intifada (uprising), the news agency said.

They will draft a final report on the committee's activities regarding issues among the Arab world, including the Palestinian struggle against Israel's occupation and ways to support the Palestinian uprising.

The report will be submitted to the upcoming Arab summit slated for March 27 in Amman, Jordan.

Earlier in the day, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa held three-way talks with Jordan's Foreign Minister Abdel Ilah al-Khatib and Mahmoud Abbas, executive committee member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), to review the situation in the Palestinian territories after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was sworn in on Wednesday.
