China Develops Device to Measure Car Body

A device to accurately measure the size of a car body based on laser technology has come into being and was approved by authorities.

The new device, the first of its kind in China, can complete checking and measuring a car within one and-a-half minutes compared with about six hours using traditional devices.

Experts suggest that it be used widely soon in the automobile industry.

Ye Shenghua, professor at Tianjin University, heading the related research, said that the device meets the needs of the car industry. It is important to ensure quality and capability by carrying out 100 percent accurate measurement of cars, said Ye.

Sources said the device can process precise measurement on 150, 000 to 300,000 cars per year.

So far it has already been used in the assembly line of the new compact model of Xiali 2000, co-developed by car makers from Tianjin in north China and Toyota of Japan.
