Tianjin to Build Railway Between Downtown and PortTianjin, the largest port city in north China, will build a 46-kilometer elevated railroad connecting its port with the downtown area.Local officials said that the project, which was expected to be accomplished within five years, would cover the distance in half an hour, compared with the current one hour via highways, thus accelerating the economic development in the eastern part of the municipality. The line has been the busiest one in the city. Around 140,000 consumers and several million tons of cargo will travel or be shipped between the downtown area and the port district, for many large enterprises, like the Tianjin Steel Plant, Tianjin Bonded Zone, and Tianjin Junliangcheng Electricity Power Plant, are located there. Experts noted that besides facilitating the city's transport conditions, the railway line is expected to improve the transport between Tianjin and Beijing as well. Via the super-speed railway, it will take about two hours to travel from Tianjin's port to Beijing. |
