Li Peng Meets Canadian Parliamentary Delegation
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met Saturday with a Canada-China Parliamentary Association delegation led by co-chairmen Jack Austin and Joe Volpe.

Li praised the association for its contribution to the development of friendly relations between China and Canada. He said the association and its Chinese counterpart can play a greater role in promoting mutual friendship and understanding.

The chairman also briefed the Canadian guests on China's parliamentary system and the on-going fourth session of the Ninth National People's Congress.

Austin and Volpe told Li that the Canada-China association is the second largest association between Canadian parliament and a foreign country, and has maintained close relations with China's National People's Congress. They believe the two sides can have even better cooperation in the future.

The Canadian delegation arrived in Beijing Thursday as guest of the China-Canada Parliamentary Association. Besides Beijing, they will also visit Shanghai, Kunming, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
