Chinese Experts Find Cure for Paroxysmal Deafness

Professor Sun Aihua with the Changzheng hospital in Shanghai recently discovered iron decompensation is an important factor leading to paroxysmal deafness.

By regulating and correcting iron metabolic clog, a deaf person 's hearing ability can be recovered, he said.

Paroxysmal deafness is a regular disease mostly occurs when the patients get up in the morning.

Despite extensive research on the disease, the cause is yet unknown. Actually, the disease is usually deemed incurable if it continues for three months.

By conducting experiments on several hundreds of mice and observing the process of the patients, experts find out that when an anomaly in metabolic function occurs, deafness strikes.

Treatment of some 300 patients based on Sun's theory has helped nearly half to basically recover their hearing ability.
