China Implements Program to Revitalize Medium and Small EnterprisesChina began implementing a program for revitalizing medium and small firms on Friday in Zhenjiang of Jiangsu Province in east China.Medium and small enterprises, regardless of their origin, ownership, industry, and region, will get support from the state so long as they are in line with the country's industrial policy, as they have good market prospect and can resettle unemployed. The program, a result of China's cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), starting in 1998 in Zhenjiang in coastal Jiangsu province, is one of the first cities to encourage the development of medium and small enterprises in China. Compared with large enterprises, medium and small enterprises, although vast in number all over the country, are disadvantageous in capital, technology, information and human resources, said Di Na, a senior official with the State Economic and Trade Commission. The program has paved the way for a policy, market and social environment of fair competition for medium and small enterprises. Zhenjiang has promised to build a service system in years to come for medium and small enterprises by providing them with aid on capital flow, technological renovation, and so on.
