Sichuan Sets 112 Key Projects This Year

Sichuan Province, in southwest China, issued Friday its 112 key construction projects this year, covering agriculture, forestry, water conservancy, public transport, telecommunication, energy industry, industrial development, and public utilities.

Xie Hong, with the Sichuan Provincial Development Planning Committee, said the allocation this year on all the projects will be nearly 30 billion yuan, 3.9 billion yuan more than the input in the key projects last year.

Among the investment, 1.3 billion yuan will go into water conservation projects and natural forest protection efforts. Another 7.7 billion yuan will be used for highway construction, and 2.1 billion yuan for railway line construction and the electrification on the existent railways.

The province will spend 800 million yuan to build an airport in scenic spots of Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.

Besides, telecommunication projects will cost 3.15 billion yuan, including China Unicom's GSM project in the province. About 9.3 billion yuan is expected to be put into energy projects, such as the laying of oil pipeline between Chengdu and Lanzhou, northwestern Gansu Province, electricity transmission network, and oil and gasoline exploration in the Sichuan Basin, and 2 billion yuan in industry, including a cement company with a 1.2 million- ton output capacity.

All the projects, including 31 ones to be accomplished and 28 ones to be started this year, will need a total investment of more than 153 billion yuan (about 18.36 billion U.S.dollars).
