Another Sea Route to Link Macao, Hong Kong

The third passenger route is expected to open between China's Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SAR) at the end of 2002.

Macao New World First Service Company Ltd. has signed an agreement with the General Secretariat for Transports and Public Works of the Macao SAR government to manage the sea route for 25 years.

Macao reported more than 9 million tourist arrivals last year and half of them came from Hong Kong. Sea route has long been an important passage to Macao.

The new route will also help alleviate the pressure of transportation in the northwestern part of Kowloon, a densely populated area in Hong Kong. Passengers from Hong Kong can leave for Macao at a dock there.
