"Scientific Games" Theme Popular among CPPCC MembersBeijing's bid for a "Scientific Games" in 2008 has won a lot of support from members who are attending the 9th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in session in Beijing since March 3."To stage a scientific games will not only benefit the city of Beijing, benefit the urban residents but also enhance the development of China's science and technology," said Fang Tingyu, a university professor on Chinese traditional medicine. Lou Dapeng, sports director of Beijing bidding committee and also member of the CPPCC National Committee, said that the Games will not only introduce the most advanced technology from abroad, but also a shot in the arm for the technological development in the hosting nation. "When Beijing hosted the Asian Games in 1990, we gained new grounds in such fronts as computer, broadcast and satellite communication," said Lou. Chinese sports, whose strength is highlighted by 28 golds in Sydney Olympics, have also been more and more closely linked with science and technology, said Lou. "We monitor athletes' training by mean of the satellite remote sensing technology, and the biodynamics study also helped improve athletes' performances," said Lou. "If Beijing is chosen for the Games, we will adopt such high- tech as the wide-band mobile communication, electronically identifying system and voice interpretation. We will develop the state-of-the-art system in handling competition results, registration, ticketing management and so on," said Lou. Actually Beijing has put into operation what they promise as some stadiums and gyms under renovation are upgraded by the namometric technology, which is expected to be the most important branches of science in the 21st century along with information and biology technology. Under the magic power of the namometric technology, stadiums' inside wall is antibacterial and antipollution, gym floor more wearable, and air like smoke through filtration and catalysis becomes harmless. Jiang Xiaoke, an environmentalist, said that the "Scientific Games" theme is one of the differences to Beijing's bid for 2000 Games. "Such things as intelligent system of traffic control, advanced radar and satellite observation system and telemedication are all reflections of the scientific games," said Jiang.
