Seven people have died and some 13,000 have been evacuated in western Ukraine as a result of flooding caused by heavy rain and melting snow, local officials said Thursday.

More than 200 villages have been affected, including 20,000 houses, 20

bridges and 53 kilometers (35 miles) of roads, the officials said.

President Leonid Kuchma is to visit the region on Friday.

Twenty-two thousand relief workers are already working to assist the region's stricken inhabitants.
