26 Civilian-based Sci-tech Awards Instituted
Lately instituted by non-government units are 26 sci-tech awards including China Sci-Tech Advancement Award on Automobile Industry officially approved as an important part of the effort to boost China's science and technology.
These civilian-based sci-tech awards, instituted with money contributions from individuals and funds by enterprises, social groups and other units, will encourage and reward individuals and organizations when they should make great achievements in scientific research, technological innovation, hi-tech industrialization, and spread of the result of sci-tech research.
According to "Regulations on Awarding Sci-Tech Successes", social forces should register with the Science and Technology Administration of the State Council before they set up awards under specific state policies promulgated. As early back in February 2000, the State Science and Technology Reward Work Office had begun to take up the work of instituting civilian-based sci-tech awards in China. By now, the work has already been in full swing under the Office and many applications have already been received.
