Dadong Customs Destroys Imported Rubbish

Dadong Port in Dandong City in northeast China's Liaoning Province destroyed a large quantity of imported rubbish on March 8, including old clothes and invalid medicines.

Wang Liyong, head of the Dadong Customs, said over 80,000 pieces of old clothes confiscated in the latter half of last year, old medical equipment, 2,150 volumes on religion and over 500 pictures having religious themes were destroyed.

The Dadong Port Customs, under the Dalian Customs, collected duties of 39.9 million yuan (about US$4.8 million), and uncovered over 30 smuggling cases worth nearly 5 million yuan last year.

The customs inspects and examines on average some 5 million tons of imported and exported cargo and 22,000 containers every year.
