Ethiopia Repatriates Over 200 Eritrean War Prisoners

The Ethiopian government announced Thursday that it set 242 Eritrean war prisoners free in the day.

The Eritreans were expected to arrive Ethiopia's northern border town of Dangilla on Thursday evening and cross the Mereb River into Eritrea on March 11, said an Ethiopian government release.

Under a comprehensive peace agreement signed by Ethiopia and Eritrea in Algiers, Algeria, last December, the two countries exchanged the first batch of war prisoners on December 23, 2000.

Ethiopia and Eritrea had engaged in a border conflict since May, 1998, till the signing of the Algiers agreement.
