Chinese Steel Producers Respond to Anti-dumping ChargeIt's learned from the intercession meeting on US hot-rolled steel anti-dumping case held by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals of Importers and Exporters (CCCMC) that five Chinese steel producers have all actively responded to the charge and engaged two US law offices to assist with their reply to the charge. So far they have basically accomplished the anti-dumping investigation questionnaire drafted by the US Department of CommerceThe five steel producers are Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corp, Benxi Steel (Group) Co. Ltd, Shanghai Baosteel Group Corp, Wuhan Iron and Steel Corp, and Panzhihua Iron and Steel (Group) Company (PISG), Some 11 US steel enterprises made an anti-dumping charge against 11 countries and regions including China on November 13 last year. It alleged that hot-rolled steel from these countries had harmed related US industries. It then was put on record by the US Department of Commerce on December 4. The responding companies have been filling in the probe questionnaires under the direction of lawyers since receiving them in early January and hopefully can hand them in within a few days. According to the statistics of the Chinese Customs, last year the Chinese export of hot-rolled steel to the United States involved in this case amounted to 380,000 tons, valued at US$103 million, while in 1999 China exported 210,000 tons of similar products, valued at US$47.92 billion.
