China to Build First Maritime-rescue Heliport in Shanghai

According to sources from East China Civil Aviation Administration, China is to build this year its first maritime-rescue heliport at Gaodongzhen, Pudong New Area, Shanghai, as part of the project for an effective 3-D maritime-rescue system in east China's coastal areas.

Construction of the heliport is to be completed coming summer as scheduled. Over an area of 13 hectares, close to Wusongkou, 1.5km away from Waigaoqiao Port, the heliport will be built with a 200-meter-long and 30-meter-wide special runway, taxi track, parking aprons, helicopter garage and other facilities for communication navigation, oil supply, meteorological observation, and fire protection.

As reported, two world advanced rescuing helicopters will be introduced from the US to this heliport. This is the first of like helicopters going to be bought from abroad and used for maritime rescue in China's coastal areas.
