New Targets Set up for China National Volleyball Teams

At the two-day conference on national volleyball training closed on March 7, a plan for the development of national volleyball in the next eight years was blueprinted and aroused a heated discussion.

According to the draft, the first challenge of China National Women's volleyball Team is to grab the title of the Asian Games next year, followed up with the qualification to the top-four in 2004 Olympics and the champion to be at the 2008 Olympic Games. As to the Men's team, they have to strive for the qualification to the Athens 2004 and then march into the top-eight in 2008 Olympics. While the National Women's Beach Volleyball Team is to target the medals and Men's team, the top eight.

To bring up more new players, the National Volleyball Administration Center has inflicted a new rule of age-limit for players, which will be put into practice in the 10th National Games. Namely, the male players below 23 (23 included) and female 22, and whoever beyond the age-limit is not allowed to participate. However, each team is permitted to have at most three players exceeding the age-limit.

With rejuvenating the national volleyball teams in view, some eight measures were brought out for it at the conference.
