UN Approves More "Fast Track" Relief Goods for Iraq

A UN unit overseeing the sanctions against Iraq announced Wednesday that 26 housing goods will be put into the "fast track" procedure as part of the ongoing effort to expedite the delivery of UN relief to Iraq.

The "fast track" system has been in place for a number of other sectors, with the new component approved by the UN Security Council committee monitoring the sanctions, according to the UN Office of the Iraq Program.

Since the system was introduced in March 2000, the office has processed over 3.17 billion US dollars worth of contracts for humanitarian supplies in the food, health, education, agriculture, water and sanitation sectors.
