Israeli Prime Minister to Visit US This Month
US President George W. Bush welcomed the formation of Israel's new government and will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later this month in Washington, the White House announced Wednesday.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Bush will meet with Sharon at the White House on March 20 and the two leaders will discuss "ways to bring an end to the violence and to advance peace and stability in the Middle East."
"President Bush welcomes the formation of Israel's new government and extends his congratulations to Prime Minister Sharon," Fleischer said in a statement.
"The United States and Israel share important strategic interests and objectives and enjoy a strong long-standing relationship," Fleischer said.
