Seeds Facilitates Agricultural Growth in LiaoningTechnicians' efforts to develop new seeds have proved rewarding in northeast China's Liaoning Province with the introduction of updated seeds having accounted for 35 percent of the agricultural growth there.This is a higher standard over the world average, as data published by the United Nations shows that seeds on the average contribute to 30 percent of the agricultural growth in the world. Statistics provided by local authorities show that the booming seeds industry in Liaoning has helped agriculture to rise 6 percent in added value over the past five years. A total of 18 infrastructure projects were completed in the seeds industry, over 2,000 new species were introduced, and some 7 million ha of land were provided with updated seeds. Separated by the Yangtze River, corn is the staple food for the north and rice for the south. Liaoning has so far provided the rest of the country with 500 million km of corn seeds, about 30 percent of the total demand in the country. While corn seeds was Liaoning's brand in the past years, vegetable seeds turn out to be the next for the coming years. The province also plans for investing 2 million yuan to build China's first major exhibition center on seeds. |
