Ambassador Calls for Closer Ukraine-China Cooperation

The prospect of economic and trade cooperation between Ukraine and China is broad, said Ukrainian ambassador to China, Ihor Lytvyn on Tuesday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a business representative office in Beijing of the Luhansk region of Ukraine, Lytvyn said that Ukraine will take an active part in the economic development in China's western and northern parts.

Lytvyn, who audited the report by Premier Zhu Rongji at the Fourth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC), said that the tenth five-year plan of China is a great and practical one.

He noted that the bilateral trade volume of the two countries in 2000 grew by 40.3 percent over the previous year.

China is the biggest trade partner of Ukraine in the Asia- Pacific region and Ukraine is the third biggest trade partner of China in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the ambassador said.

He added that Ukraine will further cooperate with China in high- technology sector of aviation and space technologies.
