PBEC to Hold 34th International General Meeting

The 34th International General Meeting of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) will be held in Tokyo, Japan from April 6 to 10, said PBEC's Chairman Kosaku Inaba Tuesday.

The conference, with the theme of "regional vitality in the 21st century," will address diverse issues including finance, environment, trade, investment, information technology, biotechnology as well as regional and world economy, said Inaba.

The meeting expects to receive senior officials and entrepreneurs from PBEC's member economies and will include, in addition to discussions on diverse subjects, a golf tournament, which aims to enhance friendship among its members, said Inaba.

China has played an important role in PBEC since it joined the organization in 1994, he said, expressing confidence that this year's meeting will provide an opportunity for further cooperation between China and other member economies.

Officials from China Council for the Promotion of International Trade added that at the meeting there are a dozen well-known Chinese enterprises to be present, including China National Construction Engineering Corp., China Huaneng Enterprise Group and Bank of China.

Established in 1967, PBEC is an association of senior business leaders representing more than 1,200 major corporations in 20 economies in the Pacific region. Its international general meeting is held annually.
