Hong Kong Published 2000-2001 Financial Budget

On March 6, Mr Donald Tsang Yam Kuen, Financial Secretary of the Department of Finance of the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, unveiled the formal file of Hong Kong's 2000-2001 Financial Budget to news media and answered reporters' questions. He will submit the budget to the Legislative Council next day.

Forest Fire in Sichuan Wiped out

It's reported that the forest fire breaking out February 25 in the Yajiang County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province has been brought under control thanks to the concerted efforts of over 3,700 firefighters.

No. 2 Nanjing Yangtze Bridge completed

The 2,938-meter bridge has a span of 628 meters that ranks top among the same kind of bridges of the country , and placed third in the world. The No. 2 Nanjing Yangtze Bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic by the end of March after more than three years of contruction.

Multiple track of Beijing-Kowloon line under construction

A multiple track of Beijing-Kowloon (in Hong Kong) rail line is under construction since March 6, 2001. The 220-kilometer line is between Longchuan and Dongguan. As a key project of the State's 10th Five-Year Plan, the total investment on it is 2.7 billion yuan. The line is expected to be open to traffic in August 2003, aiming at alleviating the transportation pressure on Beijing-Kowloon line.
