Beijing to Build Central Business District

Beijing municipal government will strengthen the construction work on its central business district in the following five years to improve the local investment environment for business activity.

Shen Baochang, director with Beijing Development Planning Committee, said the government will ask for a worldwide bidding of the general design blueprint this year.

The district will be built in Chaoyang District in the eastern part of Beijing, occupying an area of about 3.99 square kilometers.

Shen said the plan was initiated in the early 1990s. Over 60 percent of foreign-funded companies and around 50 percent of the star hotels are located in the planned area.

There are 43 office buildings, apartment buildings and other facilities that have been built. So far, 92 of the 156 large multinational companies, such as Motorola and Samsung, have already set up their representative offices in the planned area.

Shen said the project will help Beijing play a more important role in global economic development because of its ideal location, facilities and first-class service.
