Move for a National Gallery Reported

Shu Yi, deputy of CPPCC and also vice-curator of National Museum of Modern Chinese Literature, March 5 called for construction of a national gallery in the way national treasures are to be well protected.

As shown by existing galleries in China, these are mostly in the category of such specialized art forms as picture, sculpture, photography, movie, etc. China's traditional arts have a long history and these should be blessed with an all-round state-level art gallery. When should it be built the great cultural project should present the best of a multitude of art forms as traditional music, dance, drama, acrobatics and opera marking the different stages and history of development in China. Doubtless, there is every necessity and great urgency for such a gallery to be built in saving art treasures of the Chinese nation from extinction, Shu said.
