Yantai to Pilot Use and Management of China's Sea territories

Yantai, a coast city on the Shandong Peninsula, is lately reported to have been approved by the National Bureau of Oceanography and the Ministry of Finance along with 16 others as the second batch of demonstration areas to exercise the right piloting the use and management of China's sea territories.

Four sea territorial demonstration areas including Yantai were first set up in piloting the use and management of China's sea territories in 1997 and with these China has sea territorial management strengthened, utilization developed, experiences achieved and rules promulgated in ruling the use and exploitation of its sea territories.

This is the second time now that Yantai has been chosen this year to undertake the task in piloting exploitation of China's sea territories on the basis of past experiences achieved with three others of the first batch of demonstration areas. As is set by their specific tasks, Yantai with 16 others will have to promote an all-round development of the work on the use and management; spread experiences gained from the past; and build up new rules governing maritime exploitation and for a healthy development of China's maritime economy.

Meanwhile, as is demanded, the second batch of demonstration areas will serve as 17 legislation bases in piloting China's coastal areas, doing topical research on major legislative subjects and working for a sound legislative system governing the using and management of the country's sea territories.
