Draft Five-Year Plan Wins Applause from CPPCC National Committees Members

China's draft 10th five-year plan has won applause from members of the Ninth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee at the advisory body's annual session.

The CPPCC National Committee members described the draft plan as "grand, correctly oriented and encouraging".

The plan has clarified the direction of China's development in the next five years, the implementation of which will assure China a position among world powers, the members said.

Member Qu Qinyue said the plan presented a deep analysis of the domestic and international situation and reflected the will of all nationalities in China

Member Huang Guancong said the plan is realistic and will help China cope with the latest development in economic globalization and technological advancement.

Member Hu Fa-kuang from Hong Kong said the west China development strategy and concerted regional development advocated in the plan will boost the economy of western regions and improve the life of people there.

CPPCC National Committee member Dong Fureng said the plan's emphasis on economic restructuring will have a deep and far- reaching impact on China's participation in economic globalization and its international competitive edge.

Malaqinfu, a member from Inner Mongolia, suggests that more studies be done of the natural and cultural environment in the west in implementing the west China development strategy.

Member Wang Wenyuan said solid efforts must be done to change the government's functions, as China is moving from a planned economy to a market economy.
