Japan Funds Clean Water ProjectsThe Japanese Government Monday donated some 177,000 US dollars to help provide clean water for some farmers living in Shanxi Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China.A signing ceremony for the donation in name of the Grassroots Project was held Monday. Out of the donation, 84,000 US dollars will go to the construction of a water-pipeline project in Xiaojiazhuang Town and Yanwu Town of the city of Fenyang, Shanxi Province. Benefiting most from the clean-water project will be the 30,000 people in the two towns who have suffered the effects of drinking water with dangerous levels of arsenic. In a separate project planned for the Tumd Right Banner of Baotou in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the Japanese Government will donate more than 92,000 US dollars to help provide clean water for over 6,000 villagers. Arsenic poisoning can be cured shortly after arsenic is eliminated from drinking water, research shows. Initiated by the Japanese Government, the Grassroots Project provides aid to developing countries in an effort to improve their medical and educational programs. |
