China to Build New Checkpoint on Sea Route to VietnamFangcheng City in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is China's southwesternmost sea outlet, is to build a new port this year as part of the sea route to Ha Long Vinh in Vietnam.Fangcheng, on the Beibu Gulf, already has the land port of Dongxing providing access to Vietnam. The new maritime border gateway to be built as part of the tourism route will feature a golden beach, mangroves, a rocky shore and an ethnic village. It is expected to give a great boost to trade and tourism between China and Vietnam. Fangcheng, with some 500 km of coastline, is one of China's 19 terminal ports. It has 10 berths, each of which can accommodate 10,000 dwt of shipping. The port handled over 2.71 million passengers last year, making it the third-largest port in China in this respect. |
