US to Deploy 4 MH-47E Combat Helicopters in S.Korea

The United States Army will deploy four all-weather MH-47E combat helicopters in South Korea to improve the combat capability of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), said the Yonhap News Agency Monday.

Under the joint Korea-US operations plan, the agency quoted military sources as saying that the combat aircraft capable of performing medium and long-range special force operations will be deployed in the rear area of South Korea.

The MH-47E combat aircraft, which can carry up to 40 servicemen, can fly as far as 3,700 kilometers without mid-air refueling at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour.

With a state-of-the-art navigation system, it is capable of flying at medium and low altitudes during night and inclement weather.

It also has a multi-mode radar system to cope with the enemy's anti-aircraft artillery and guided ground-to-air missiles.

The MH-47E demonstrated its superb combat capability in the Desert Storm Operation in the Gulf War.
