Pilot Counties for Sustainable Agro-Development Set off
China's two strategies on agricultural development��"rejuvenate agriculture by science and education" for a "sustainable development", will be unfolded in the first 15 pilot key counties.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, altogether 50 "pilot counties for the two strategies" will be built during the Tenth Five-year Plan period.
As reported only those counties that are of importance to China's agricultural development with favorable terrain in specified ecological regions can be chosen as demonstration counties. These counties must be recognized as having major industries and well-known products with an initial form of operation in agro-industries.
Injected with some RMB 200 million yuan the whole project, covering 50 counties, is to be carried out in three phases.
The construction of the first cluster of 15 counties will be set off this year with a scheduled construction time of three years and an investment of over RMB 1 million yuan for each county granted by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This project will help over 90 percent of rural cadres at the grass-roots level and more than 80 percent of farmers to receive training, thus adjusting and optimizing the structure in agriculture. And on this basis it is to form one to two leading industries to help step into a sustainable development in agricultural production, thereby increasing by a big margin the farmers' income in all project counties.
