Capital of Tungsten On Way to Agricultural Base

Zhong Shuchun is busy attending to some 200,000 pots of flowers in his garden.

Formerly head of a workshop in Dayu, in east China's Jiangxi province, Zhong seems quite satisfied with his current flower business.

Dayu, blessed with its abundance in tungsten resources that ranks first in the world either in quantity and quality, is reputed as the capital of tungsten.

However, local authorities started to incur agricultural businesses from home and abroad in an attempt to get rid of the severe pollution brought on by the development of the tungsten dustry in the past decades.

"We have to make compensation for what we've done in the past,"said Zhong.

So far, the county has already attracted 125 agricultural projects involving total overseas investment of 120 million yuan.

By granting investors a series of preferential policies like land use and a tax cut, the country has attracted more investors.

At present, the county has been well known around the country not only for its tungsten industry, but as one of the nation's largest flower production bases.

Meanwhile, each of the three sectors including flower planting, vegetable, and poultry all surpassed grain production in output value in the county last year.
