Shanghai Automobile Rally to Open This Month

The Federation of Automobile Sports of PRC (FASC) released the news in Beijing that the Jiatong Tires Cup Shanghai Automobile Rally will open March 6-11 in Shanghai to raise the curtain for this year's National Automobile Rally Tournament.

Lai Baogui, a FASC official in charge of this rally, said at a news conference that in this Shanghai Automobile Rally, 90 percent of the 548.92-km competitive course are asphalt-surfaced roads, with 16 special sectors in two competitive parts. Up to now, nearly 50 players from over 10 teams, including those from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, have registered for the rally.

Zhao Yinghua, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau and president of Shanghai Automobile Sports Association, said that as China's biggest automobile production base, Shanghai has the capability of holding such an automobile rally. This rally will feature a combination of sports promotion and car display. The opening ceremony and start of the race will be held in front of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, and then the racing cars will cross the downtown areas the main streets and finally reach the competitive arena. This rally will be held in Sheshan Mountain and Xiaokunshan Mountain of Songjiang District, Shanghai.

This year's National Automobile Rally Tournament, sponsored by the FASC, will be held in four logs including Shanghai, Kunming, Changchun, and Shaoguan. The Shanghai Rally received strong backing from the Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Sales Company.
