China Academy of Fine Arts Under Campus Renovation

China Academy of Fine Arts, the country's most prestigious school in the field, is undergoing a campus renovation starting Wednesday.

In two years, the academy, the birthplace of modern art in China and numerous masters, located by the West Lake in Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang province, will take on a new look.

Established some 70 years ago, the academy now looks old and the facilities are outdated.

The renovation project, will cost 312.3 million yuan in its first phase, and will expand the campus area to some 60,000 square meters.

Upon completion, the school complex will feature superb combination of traditional culture and modern styles, while at the same time highlighting its unique architectural feature in the region.

During the past few years, the academy has jointly set up several branches in Hangzhou and in its neighbor cities including Shanghai.
