Estonian President Leaves for Shanghai

President Lennart Meri of the Republic of Estonia left Beijing for Shanghai Saturday morning to continue his 10-day unofficial visit.

Meri arrived in Beijing Thursday at the invitation of President Jiang Zemin, and the two presidents met Friday. Meri also met with Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress the same day.

Meri is the first president of Estonia after its independence in 1991.
