Tourism Hike in Northeast China Coastal City

The coastal city of Dalian in northeast China's Liaoning Province last year has gained about 9 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion) from the tourism industry, accounting for more than 8 percent of the city's gross domestic product (GDP).

The city received last year around 338,000 overseas travelers, who spent about US$234 million here, up 30 percent from the previous year.

According to local sources, the city has sent dozens of tourism promotion missions to southeast Asian countries and has established friendly cooperative ties with more than 20 overseas tourism organizations since 1999.

The promotion missions also covered domestic regions and attracted 3.3 million tourists from other provinces.

The city has invested heavily in rebuilding the roads, growing more trees and grass to bring the city's greenery coverage to 40 percent, constructing 20 new plazas and building scenic sites at more than 160 places.
