Sino-American Friendship Volunteer Program

The Sino-American Friendship Volunteer Program has been carried out in 34 Chinese colleges and universities across the vast western areas of China.

The office for the program was moved to Sichuan University, the largest institution of higher education in western China, in this capital city of Sichuan Province Friday.

US Ambassador to China Joseph Prueher said the success of the program is the result of understanding and trust between China and the United States, as well as the peoples of the two countries.

Further cooperation and joint efforts will ensure a bright future for the program.

The program was initiated in 1993 in Chengdu, with the aim of improving English education as well as promoting awareness of environmental protection in colleges and universities.

So far, the program has attracted 70 volunteers working in colleges and universities in Chongqing Municipality and other parts of Sichuan, as well as in Guizhou and Gansu provinces.
